Corrine Johnson Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

North Augusta, SC- Graveside Services for Mrs. Corrine Johnson Smith of, 96, who entered into rest on March 5, 2022, will be conducted Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 12:00 noon in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Mr. Scott Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. She was born January 15, 1926, in Sardis, Mississippi to the late Bennie Frank & Lola Mae (Griste) Johnson. Mrs. Smith was a native of Sardis, Mississippi but made the Aiken & North Augusta area her home for the past 71 years. She was preceded in death by her late husband of 61 years, Mr. Frank Edwin Smith. She worked in clerical for the VA Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee during World War II. She was also a unit clerk for the Talmadge Hospital in Augusta, Georgia from 1961-1962. She was an employee at Belk of North Augusta during the 1960's and a homemaker for the majority of her life. Mrs. Smith was a very talented artist. She especially enjoyed acrylic and oil painting. She won numerous awards for her artwork. She was a lifelong member of the church of Christ, and specifically the Central Church of Christ in Augusta, GA. She is survived by her sister, W. Nannette Johnson of North Augusta, SC; daughter, Deborah Smith Gay (Sonny) of Martinez, Ga.; daughter, Lola Rebecca Smith Price (Bill) of Spring Hill, Tennessee; and son, John Edwin Smith of North Augusta, SC. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Arthur Judson "Trey" Gay III (Elisabeth) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Todd Edwin Gay (Melanie) of Evans, GA; Rhianna Smith F. Murray (Scott) of Brunswick, Georgia; and Caroline Corrine Price Sparrow (Ronald) of Spring Hill, Tennessee. Mrs. Smith had six beautiful great grandchildren; Arthur Judson Gay IV, Luke Edwin Gay, Ella Diane Gay, Katelyn Sarah Gay, Landon Wade Gay, and Lola Ann Sparrow. She called all her grandchildren her "babies" and she loved them dearly. Pallbearers will be Trey Gay, Todd Gay, Judson Gay, Luke Gay, Landon Gay, Ronald Sparrow Jr., and Scott Murray. The family would like to thank Regency Hospice for their excellent care, along with Ms. Smith's three loving caregivers: Bea, Niecey and Sarah.
