North Augusta, SC—The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. David B. Mottel, 65, who entered into rest September 17, 2020 will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o’clock from Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. The Very Reverend C. Alexander McDonald celebrant. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. The service will be streamed live on Posey Funeral Director’s Facebook page. Mr. Mottel was a life-long resident of North Augusta and a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He retired as the chief economic development officer at SCE&G with 20 years of service. Mr. Mottel was an active part of his community having served as a past president of the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce and on various other community organizations. He enjoyed football, baseball, golf and coaching his children in their respective sports, particularly soccer. Mr. Mottel’s greatest love was family and he took pride in having a loving home where he was known to build and fix anything. His sense of humor and love of music will forever be remembered and proved to be great blessings later in his life. Mr. Mottel was preceded in death by his father, William John Mottel, II and brother, Phillip Mottel. Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Kathy Mottel; four children, Brian (Heather) Mottel, North Augusta, SC, Ben (Hannah) Mottel, Wagener, SC, Laura (Evan) Darr, North Augusta, SC and Sam (Chandler) Mottel, North Augusta, SC; his mother, Carole Mottel, North Augusta, SC; three grandchildren, James Liptak, Helen Mottel and Vayda Mottel; two sisters, Marsha (Jim) Hornsby, Birmingham, AL and Mary (Frank) Fletcher, Peachtree City, GA; three brothers, William (Cynthia) Mottel, Aiken, SC, Steve (Janet) Mottel, North Augusta, SC and Andy (Jeannie) Mottel, Wilmington, DL; a sister-in-law, Kim Mottel, North Augusta, SC; four brothers-in-law, Art (Catherine) Evans, Henry (Darlene) Evans, both of North Augusta, SC, Dennis (Lana) Evans and Kenny (Angela) Evans, both of Jackson, SC. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken McDowell and Dr. John Velky. Active Pallbearers will be Bryan Valdetero, John Hammond, Joe Gamble, John Felak, David Buck and Jim Stafford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6. The family would like to say thank you to the many special people who carried them through this journey with David. A Special thank you to those who helped care for him, including Angelica Gonzalez, Parks Pharmacy, Dr. John Velky and his office staff, Grandma Carole, Debbie, Dee, and Anne. Thank you to the faculty and staff at Paul Knox middle school for being an incredible support system. David was a devoted husband and father. We love you David, Dad.
