Edward John Hensel Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

North Augusta, SC – A private family gathering will be held to celebrate and honor Edward “Ed” John Hensel, Jr., 83, who entered into rest May 29, 2022. Mr. Hensel was born December 26, 1938, in Evanston, IL to the late Edward John and Berniece Hensel, Sr. Edward, loving husband of Patricia “Pat” died peacefully at home after a hospital stay. Pat and their sons, Steve and Todd helped with his care so he could remain at home. Both Ed and Pat graduated from Michigan State University and began their life together in the Chicago suburbs. Ed’s retail career included executive positions at Marshall Field & Co. in Chicago and then Houston; VP of distribution at Maison Blanche in Baton Rouge, and VP of distribution at Shoe Carnival in Evansville. Ed’s professional expertise was design and management of merchandise distribution centers. Ed and Pat chose South Carolina for retirement to be near their sons Steve and Todd. Ed loved sharing a nice meal at family gatherings during the holidays. Ed particularly enjoyed sharing his hobbies, fishing, boating, and golf with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Pat Hensel; sons, Steve Hensel (Cindy) and Todd Hensel (Wei); four grandchildren, Michael Hensel, Alyssa Hensel, Matthew Hensel and Rachel Hensel. Ed’s cremated remains will be interred at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Skokie, IL alongside four past generations of Hensels. The family wishes to thank family, friends and neighbors for their assistance and caring support. They would also like to thank the staff at University Hospital and first responders for their professional care during his illness.
