North Augusta. SC – Funeral Services for Mr. Virgil Eugene Woody, 79, who entered in rest May 4, 2021, will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from Bel-Ridge Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Mr. Woody was born June 4, 1941 in Tazewell County, VA to the late Raleigh and Ruby Woody. He graduated from Graham High School in Bluefield, VA. Mr. Woody served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Vesuvius (AE-15). He was a lifetime member of the North Augusta Optimist Club and was very involved in organizing and coaching youth athletics including baseball, basketball and football, starting the first Belvedere youth football program. Mr. Woody was a long time member of Bel-Ridge Baptist Church. He was a 1984 kidney transplant recipient at Medical College of Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Woody and Goldie Woody Jarrett. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty G. Woody; three sons, Warren Woody, Mark (Joni) Woody and Gary (Tracie) Woody; five grandchildren, Jill, Keri, Brooke, Zac and Shelby; four great-grandchildren, Natalie, Braxton, Layla and Kyson; sisters, Edith Woody Byrd and Freda Woody Coomes; brothers, Kenneth (Janie) Woody, Jimmy (Bonnie) Woody and Freddie (Karen) Woody. Pallbearers will be David James, Jr., Robert Pack, Richard Pack, David Byrd, Michael Woody, Jason Woody, Keith Woody and Scott Jarrett.
