Thomas Joshua Avery

Windsor, SC – The Lord called his beloved child, Thomas Joshua Avery, home on June 1, 2023. The Avery family will receive friends, Saturday afternoon, June 10th, from 4 until 6 o’clock at Victory Baptist Church. Thomas’ Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, June 11th, at 2 o’clock from Victory Baptist Church with Rev. C.T. Townsend officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Thomas was raised in a loving home and was the oldest son of his beloved parents, Brandon and Nadine Avery. In Thomas’ short life of just 5 years, he impacted, not only the lives of his family, but all who knew him. He was an engaging and charming young man, who had a youthful zeal, anyone would admire. Thomas was active and found joy in all he did, especially in helping tend to chores on his family’s farm, with milking the cow being his most favorite. He was a confident swimmer with no fear of the water, and learned to swim “like a fish” as a toddler. As a growing young boy, he had a voracious appetite, and loved any meal or snack his mother gave him. Regardless of the cuisine, he always complemented his mother for her kindness and the tastiness of the meal. Thomas had the most beautiful blue eyes, which he loved. He wanted everything from his outfits to his glasses to match, what he called his “blueberry eyes.” Thomas loved and adored his family and knew without hesitation or doubt that his family loved him in return. There was nothing greater to him than playing with his brothers or his nighttime routine with his parents, which always consisted of reading his favorite books, snuggles, and his favorite phrase, “Don’t forget to hug and kiss me!” He gave the best hugs! A hug from Thomas had the ability cure any frustration or bad days. He truly had the gift of discernment and knew when others were in need. Often through his encouragement, his vibrant smile, his positivity, and selfless attitude, he had the ability to help others feel the love of Christ. Thomas exemplified the Christ-like love of the Savior in all he did. He loved everyone, had no favorites, and considered everyone his friend. He especially loved his family and friends at Victory Baptist Church. Thomas would be visibly excited each time he saw the Victory sign as they entered the church grounds. He thrived in Vacation Bible School, his Sunday school class, and Children’s Church. Some may even consider him an “old soul” because he also loved to sit and listen to the pastor’s message and the choir sing. Thomas was a blessed son of God who will be dearly missed, especially by those who loved him. In spite of his untimely departure from this world and the grief his family feels, they find great peace knowing that Jesus needed their “blueberry eyed” boy in heaven. Thomas was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Warren and Virginia Elwood; his paternal great-grandfathers, Wayne Avery and Jerry Croteau. In addition to his parents, surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his two brothers, Matthew Avery and Adrien Avery; paternal great-grandmothers, Sandy Avery and Linda Croteau; maternal great-grandparents, Glen and Shirley Nook; paternal grandparents, Aaron and Ruth Avery; maternal grandparents, Tracy and Sharleen Elwood; paternal uncles and aunts, David and Hope Avery, Joshua and Victoria Avery, Caleb Avery, Nathaniel Avery, Timothy Avery, and Adriana Avery; maternal uncles and aunts, Benjamin and Davinia Elwood, Jesse Elwood, John and Danielle Elwood, Charles and Rosemarie Elwood, Sarah and Maxime Alie, Hannah Elwood, and Timothy Elwood; and other extended family, including cousins, great uncles and aunts; and great-great uncles and aunts. Pallbearers will be Brandon Avery, Aaron Avery, Joshua Avery, Caleb Avery, Nathaniel Avery, Timothy Avery, David Avery, and Jerry Britt.
