Alfred W. "Alfie" Davis, Jr.

Beech Island, SC – Funeral Services for Mr. Alfred W. “Alfie” Davis, Jr., 75, who entered into rest September 1, 2024, will be conducted Friday morning at 10 o’clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. Greg Williams, Rev. David Day, and Rev. Craig Day officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery of the Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock. Mr. Davis was born August 7, 1949, in Berchtesgaden, Germany, to the late Alfred W. Davis, Sr. and Karolina Francesca Brandtner Davis. In his youth, he moved several times due to his father’s military service before his family settled in Augusta, GA in 1962. Mr. Davis graduated from Butler High School in 1967 and later graduated from Augusta Technical College. In 1972, he met and married his sweetheart, Mellisa. Following their marriage, he learned the trade of carpentry from his father-in-law, eventually becoming a Master Carpenter. They continued their work together for 24 years building custom homes in the area. Mr. Davis went on to work as a project manager with Bechtel Construction until 2009, then became an integral part of Beams Contracting, where he worked until July of 2024. Mr. Davis was a member of Gum Swamp Hunt Club and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing. He was a 3rd Degree Master Mason and Secretary of Andrews Masonic Lodge #391. Mr. Davis was well known for his famous barbecue and his hash was second to none. He will be fondly remembered as a family man who loved his wife, cherished his children, and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Trum. Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 52 years; Mellisa Davis; three children, David Davis (Annette), Sean Davis (Rhonda), and Jennifer Grishkin (Jon); seven grandchildren, Alex Davis (Candice), Natalie Davis (Mauro), Elizabeth Davis, Maggie Davis, Haley Spires, Joey Hall, and Davis Grishkin; four great-grandchildren, Kaisley Spires, Brooks Spires, Olivia Hall, Isaac Davis-Rodrigues; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Active Pallbearers will be Brandon Thornton, David Thornton, Gregory Mims, Ben Skinner, Chris Waters, Charles Wray, Donald Waters, and Jeff Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Cobb, Mike Skinner, Destry Holmes, Doug Holmes, David Waters, Herschel Smith, Edward Eldridge, and Jim Broome.
