Bertha S. Grant

Jackson, SC - Graveside Services for Mrs. Bertha S. Grant, 96, who entered into rest February 23, 2025, will be conducted Monday afternoon, March 3rd, at 2 o’clock in the Chester Armenia Methodist Church Cemetery, Chester, SC. Father Agustin Guzman officiating. The family will receive friends at Posey Funeral Directors, Sunday afternoon, March 2nd, from 2 until 4 o’clock. Bertha was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, whose kindness, wisdom, and faith touched all who knew her. Born on March 26, 1928, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, to Gilberto Salazar Estrada and Concha Salazar Ortega, Bertha was raised with strong values of family, love, compassion, and faith. A devoted Catholic, she lived her life guided by her unwavering belief in God, finding strength in prayer and sharing her faith with those around her. Bertha had a successful career working for several U.S.-based companies in Guatemala. While working for Nello L. Teer Company, she met Linduff H. Grant, the love of her life. They shared a beautiful marriage of 55 years, supporting each other through life’s adventures. Together, they lived in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and eventually settled in Jackson, SC, upon Linduff’s retirement to be closer to family. In 2009, very proudly, Bertha became a US Citizen. Bertha and Linduff shared a passion for travel, exploring many places across the United States and Europe. Their journeys together were filled with adventure, discovery, and cherished memories, always deepening their bond and appreciation for the world around them. The majority of travels were made as a family with their two children. Beyond her travels and family, Bertha found joy in life’s quieter moments. She was a talented knitter, creating beautiful, handcrafted pieces for loved ones. She was also an avid reader, always eager to immerse herself in a good book. Her love for learning and creativity was a defining part of who she was. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Linduff H. Grant; and three sisters, Victoria, Mercedes, and Conchita. Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include a son, Joseph Grant (Suzanne) of Greer, SC; a daughter, Katherine Grant of Guatemala City, Guatemala. Her two grandchildren, whom she took great pride in, Christopher Degenhart (Roslyn) of Dallas, TX, and Andrew Degenhart of Denver, CO. She also leaves behind a beloved sister-in-law, Joyce B. Grant and many cherished nephews and nieces. Her legacy of love, faith, and strength will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Bertha’s family would like to express their gratitude to all of the caregivers for the love, prayers, and support they have received during this time.
