Mrs. Betty Lou McClain Boyd Wife of Dr. Claud A. Boyd, Jr. North Augusta, SC—Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Lou McClain Boyd, 83, who made the glorious journey to be with her Lord and Savior on March 31, 2017, will be conducted Saturday April 15th at 1 o’clock from First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, Ga. Rev. John Barrett and Rev. Jim Knight officiating. Interment in Westover Memorial Park. Betty Lou was adored as the youngest of seven, born July 1, 1933, to George Leonard McClain Sr. and Cora Fondren McClain of Choctaw County in Mathiston, Mississippi. She graduated from Mathiston High School, studied Elementary Education at Wood Junior College in Mathiston, MS and Mississippi College in Clinton, MS and was a resident of North Augusta since 1967. She was a devoted wife to Claud Allen Boyd, Jr. M.D., for 50 years (1964-2014) and was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Betty was a talented vocalist and pianist who sang in the choir at First Baptist Church of North Augusta, SC, and played both the piano and organ for Lyndon Grove Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and Grace Baptist Fellowship, both in Augusta, Ga. She later became a member of First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, Georgia, and attended their Trinity Bible Class. Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, Claud Allen Boyd, Jr. M.D., two sisters, Helen McClain King and Reba McClain Harris; two brothers, Elmo Fondren “Mac” McClain and George L. McClain, Jr. Survivors include four children, Claud Allen Boyd, III (Vickie), Aiken, SC; Carin Elizabeth Boyd, North Augusta, SC; Bridget Esther Boyd, Atlanta, GA, and Allison Boyd Vanderhoff (Steve), Yulee, FL; seven grandchildren, Claud Jacob Allen Boyd, Samuel Robert Boyd, Henry Boyd Vanderhoff, John Brooks Vanderhoff, Cora Paige Vanderhoff, Joseph Adam Vanderhoff and Caroline Perri Vanderhoff; a sister, Bobbie McClain Gore (Albert), Starkville, MS; a sister-in-law, Sharon Deckrosh (Dennis); and numerous nieces and nephews.
