Diana Nainis Ward

Diana Nainis Ward, 90, of North Augusta, SC, passed away in Augusta, GA on Sunday, September 18, 2022. She was born in Chicago, IL on September 19, 1931, to Vincent and Barbara Nainis. She was the last of her generation, having been predeceased by her siblings, William Nainis, Emily Yodeka and Jenny Grigutis. After receiving her BA in Home Economics from the University of Illinois in 1953, she married and moved with her husband to North Augusta, where in addition to raising her large family, she worked as a teacher and a writer, though, alas, not as the Fashion Editor for Harper’s Bazaar. She enjoyed traveling, selling increasingly bizarre things on eBay and sharing her opinion (often) on almost any topic. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in North Augusta, where she never joined the choir because she thought it was the job of those in the pews to out-sing the choir. Diana was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, David Aloysius Ward. She is survived by her nine children: Rebecca Ward Brown, Hodges, SC; David Aloysius Ward, Jr., North Augusta; Thomas Joseph Ward (Lavetta), Columbia, SC; Kathleen Ward Knost (John), Columbus, Ohio; Eileen Ward Smith (Steven), Arnoldsville, GA; Mary Ward Collins (Herbert), West Columbia, SC; Christopher John Ward, Charleston, SC; Jonathan Vincent Ward (Patricia), Annandale, VA; and Matthew Patrick Ward (Amita), Greer, SC; as well as her honorary daughter, Angie Riebling Dobos (Gary), North Augusta, who showered her with love, patience and care throughout her final year. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. The Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 5 o’clock at Posey Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends following the Rosary at the funeral home until 7 o’clock. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 11 o’clock at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 139 Way of Peace in North Augusta, with Father David Arnoldt celebrant. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Pineview Memorial Gardens, 450 West Five Notch Road in North Augusta.
