Dixie Poore Fernandez North Augusta, SC – The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Dixie Poore Fernandez, 83, who entered into rest March 13, 2018 will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o’clock from Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Rev. J. Renaurd West celebrant. Final Prayers and Commendation in Pineview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Fernandez was native of Elberton, GA, former resident of Charlottesville, VA, having made North Augusta her home for the past 60 years. She was a graduate of Elberton High School, received her degree as a registered nurse from the Anderson Hospital School of Nursing and her B.S. in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. Her nursing career led her to education where she taught practical nurses and L.P.N.s at Augusta Technical College and later teaching hospital education at University Hospital. Mrs. Fernandez enjoyed playing tennis and was known for her wicked backhand. She loved traveling with her husband, especially enjoying their time at Hilton Head Island and at their home in the north Georgia mountains. Mrs. Fernandez was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and will be fondly remembered as a loving matriarch to her family, who always organized and planned their family reunions. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pauline Poore, a brother William Jackson Poore and a sister, Frankie Wadene Higginbotham. Survivors include her husband of over 63 years, LeVerne P. Fernandez; two sons, L. Perry (Jan) Fernandez, Jacksonville, FL, P. Gray (Sarah) Fernandez, Clayton, NC; a daughter, Susan Maria Fernandez (Jason) Cox; nine grandchildren, Amy (Forrest) Johnston, Graham (Christel) Fernandez, James Varnell, Justin Varnell, Katie (C.W.) Langston, Hannah (Jonathan) Givens, Sam Fernandez, Kyra Cox, Mitchell Cox; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Poore, North Augusta; two sisters, Grace Boozer, Ninety Six, SC, Jean Greenway, Greenwood, SC; three sisters-in-law, Christel Poore, Greenwood, SC, Nita Wolpert, Sterling, AK, Judy Rhode, James Island, SC; a number of nieces and nephews. The Vigil Service will be held in the Posey Funeral Chapel Friday evening at 6 o’clock followed by visitation until 8 o’clock. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, P.O.
