Dot Zeigler

Seneca, SC – Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Bobo Zeigler, 95, who entered into rest August 20, 2024, will be conducted Thursday, August 29th, at 12 Noon from the Trinity Baptist Church, 504 South Oak Street, Seneca, SC. Reverend Andy Hunter officiating. A lunch reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Private interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens, SC. Mrs. Zeigler was born on May 3, 1929, in Roebuck, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Austin Sparks Bobo and Lillian Wolfe Bobo. She earned a bachelor’s degree in voice and French at Limestone College in 1949. She married Edward Tate Zeigler on October 19, 1950, and they moved to North Augusta, SC, where they resided until 2016. She and Ed operated Van Wood Cleaners. Later they opened Playcare School with their friends Tom and the late Betty Farris. At Playcare, “Mrs. Dot” was known and loved by hundreds of families who entrusted their children to her care. Dot and Ed were active members of First Baptist Church in North Augusta where they volunteered in numerous ways. She spent many years as a leader in the youth department and enjoyed her circle meetings. Mrs. Zeigler was an exemplary hostess on the many occasions they entertained friends and family in their home. Her gregarious personality enabled her to make many new friends after she and Ed moved to Clemson Downs in 2016. At that time, they joined First Baptist Church in Clemson. Her family and faith were the center of her world. She ruled with an iron hand and a gentle heart. Her grandchildren will forever cherish time with their “Granny” and her Bobby Bear stories. Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Edward Tate Zeigler; two daughters, Nan (John) Thompson of Seneca, SC and Jane (Eddie) Capps of Anderson, SC; her son Edward (Susan) Zeigler, Jr of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren John Michael (Stacey) Thompson of Clyde, NC, Will (Diana) Thompson of Summerville, SC, Claire (Jared) Sang of Greenville, SC, Tate (Kelly) Zeigler of Charleston, SC, Corbin (Hank) Grant of Morrison, CO, and Walker (Julie) Capps of Travelers Rest, SC; 16 great-grandchildren Hazel, Conrad and Millie Kate Thompson, Wyatt, Ruthie and Seth Thompson, Jackson and Oliver Sang, Della Zeigler, Jud, Halle and Cole Grant, Gradie, Ellie, June, and Walt Capps; nephews Lin (Dianne) Peeples, Austin (Sheryl) Bobo, Steve (Carol) Bobo; niece Jan (Don) Beddie and an especially close cousin, Judson Wolfe. She was predeceased by a great grandson, John Henry Lester Thompson, a brother and sister-in-law Austin (Grace) Bobo, a sister and brother-in-law Margaret (Pringle) Peeples, and a nephew Joe Bobo. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Cottingham Hospice House and to her caregivers for the past 6 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Limestone University designated to the Lillian Wolfe Bobo Scholarship, 1115 College Drive, Gaffney, SC 29340 or to the charity of one’s choice.
