Eleanor Smith Steele

North Augusta, SC—Funeral Services for Mrs. Eleanor Smith Steele, 88, of Summit Commons Court, North Augusta, SC, who entered into rest December 24, 2007, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home. Dr. William L. Owens officiating. Interment in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Steele was a native of Augusta having made North Augusta her residence for the past nine years. She was a 1936 graduate of Tubman High School, a lifelong member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School in the Adult Department and had been an active member and program chairman for the Faithful Ones. Mrs. Steele retired as a Secretary from Continental Can Company, Woodlands Division in 1982. She was the late Edison P. Steele and daughter of the late John and Annie Smith and sister of the late Al Smith, Oscar Smith, Pep Smith and Charlotte Smith Pearson. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Pete McDonald, Augusta; a granddaughter and her husband, Kelly and Harry Brown, Evans; a grandson and his wife, Mark and Laura McDonald, Richmond, VA; three great-grandchildren, Neal Hagood, Chelsea Hagood and John Hagood, all of Evans; a special niece and her husband, Cheryl and Phil Howie, North Augusta who actively participated in her care; two other nieces, Joy Pearson Durand and Emily Smith Capers; two nephews, Frankie Smith and Michael Harrison (formerly John Harrison Smith). The family expresses special thanks to her friend Wanda Holley and her caregiver, Brenda Friday for faithfully helping with her care during her last months and to the caring staff of Trinity Hospice during her last days. Pallbearers will be Mark McDonald, Neal Hagood, Harry Brown, Blake Howie, Bryan Howie and Dean Durand. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 12 noon until the hour of the service.
