Gary L. McElmurray, Sr.

Beech Island, SC – Funeral Services for Mr. Gary L. McElmurray, Sr., 69, who entered into rest June 15, 2022, will be conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock in the Posey Funeral Chapel with Dr. John Bryan officiating. Interment will follow in the Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mr. McElmurray was born March 8, 1953, to the late John E. McElmurray, Sr. and Martha H. McElmurray. He was a lifelong resident of Beech Island, SC and a member of Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island. Mr. McElmurray was a devout man of faith and was known for his strong work ethic. He was a founding member of Sage Valley Golf Club, the founder and owner of Gary L. McElmurray Construction Company Inc. and had a passion for farming and the outdoors. Mr. McElmurray enjoyed hunting, cutting and bailing hay, tending to his cows and had a collection of tractors that would make most farmers envious. His greatest joy in life was his family and he always took great pride in each of their accomplishments. He will be fondly remembered by his family, especially his children and grandchildren, who referred to him affectionately as “Law Dog.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Linda Lucille McElmurray. Survivors include his wife, Christine McElmurray; his children, Dawn McElmurray, Renee Shackelford (Jonathan), Leslie Kiefer (Ivan), Gary McElmurray, Jr. (Megan), and John Winton McElmurray (Maggie Greene); his siblings, John McElmurray, Jr. (Claire), Furman McElmurray (Linda), Kathryn Menger (David), Paul McElmurray (Dana), and Lisa McElmurray; eighteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mr. McElmurray’s grandsons. The McElmurray family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff and physicians at Piedmont Augusta, Focus on You Private Care, and Augusta Oncology, especially Dr. Brent Limbaugh and Nurse Heather Evans for their compassionate care.
