Harlem, GA – Mr. George William “Bill” Evans passed in peace, Friday, July 28, 2023, at the age of 82. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, August 1, 2023, at 2 o’clock from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Harlem, GA. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Thomson, GA, with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 o’clock. Bill was born May 24, 1941, in Woburn, MA, to the late Lester Lewis Evans and Mary Virginia White Evans. He was a member of the Harlem Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a U.S. Army veteran. Bill proudly served his country in Vietnam, with career postings in Germany and Korea, retiring as a Major with 20 years of service. He was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed woodworking and was an active member of the Savannah River Woodturners Club. Bill will be fondly remembered for his firm countenance, yet peaceful demeanor, whose smile brought joy to all who knew him. Bill was a true disciple of Jesus Christ and will be greatly missed. He was a boy who learned responsibility, a man who learned to love, a father who made dreams come true, and a husband who loved with heart and soul. Bill is the loving husband of Lynnett McInelly Evans. Father of John (Alene), Leanne (David), Denise (Timothy), Cheston (Brandy), Kirk (Jennifer), and Trio (Paul). Proud grandfather of Austin, Megan Sean, Devyn, Chandler, Chace, Kerrigan, Addison, Dallin, Braden, Jaren, Clay, Aiden, Ashar, Zachary, Rivers, Bailey, Russell, Ryan, Tyler, and Mason. Proud great-grandfather of Vienna, Indi, Archer, Greyson, Ember, Quinn, Hudsyn, Kove, Daniel, Asher, Madden, Iris, and Leonidas. He is further survived by his sister, Linda Schiller, nieces, nephew, relatives, and friends. Active and Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill’s sons and grandsons.
