George W. Griffith

North Augusta, SC – Funeral Services for Mr. George W. Griffith, 86, who entered into rest March 8, 2025, will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 15th, at 2 o’clock in the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. Patrick Taylor and Rev. Cheri Griffith Yates officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, March 14th, from 6 until 8 o’clock. George was born in Charleston, SC on October 4, 1938, to the late William Betts Griffith and Helen Edith Way Griffith. He graduated from Carlisle Military Academy and later attended The Citadel and Augusta College. George retired as a machine tender from International Paper with 42 years of service and was an active member of the Belvedere Jaycees, where he served as the local President. He won the highest award presented to a Local Chapter President – the Henry Giesseneber Memorial Trophy. He was honored by Jaycees International to become JCI Senator #20532. He managed a second career as a professional photographer and was the owner of North Augusta’s first one-hour photo store. George always had a camera with him to capture every milestone in the lives of each of his family members. He appreciated all the newest gadgets, TVs, camera, and toys. George had a special place in his heart for his German Shepherd pets. He bred and showed many German Shepherds throughout the years and founded the Augusta German Shepherd Kennel Club. However, George’s greatest joy in life was his family. He will be fondly remembered as the patriarch of his family and as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving family members left to cherish his memory includes his beloved wife of 67 years, Joyce Whiteley Griffith; four children, Rev. Cheri Griffith Yates (Keith), Dee Griffith Bodie, Angela Griffith Aletky (Steven), and Ric Griffith (Alicia); his grandchildren, Dr. Jamie Driggers (Andy), Joye Morrison (James), Allan Lanier (Melanie), Jonathan Yates (Maddie Brown), Kristy Campbell, Katie Wright (Bill), Ahrean Bremer (William), Nic Bodie, Kris Bodie (Dennisia), Kameron Bodie (Michelle), Martyn Turner, Connor Turner, William Griffith, and Jack Griffith; and 17 great-grandchildren. Active Pallbearers will be Nicholas Bodie, Kristopher Bodie, Allan Lanier, Kameron Bodie, Connor Turner, Jonathan Yates, William Griffith, and Jack Griffith. Honorary Pallbearers will be George’s former co-workers from International Paper. Memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 639 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC 29841 or to a church of your choice.
