Hugh Shaw Cook III

Augusta, GA—Hugh Shaw Cook, 77, passed away on May 5, 2018 at Doctor’s Hospital surrounded by his family. A Celebration of life will be held in the Posey Funeral Chapel on Friday May 11, at 11 o’clock. Dr. Stephen H. Cook officiating. Hugh was a native of Augusta, GA. He graduated from North Augusta High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Hugh was an avid salesman, first working in Real Estate and later selling cars. He was a Sales Manager at Milton Ruben for 25 years and later at Johnson Motor Company until his retirement. Hugh was most proud of training young associates and watching them flourish in the industry. He was devoted to his family and loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Hugh enjoyed Gamecock football and basketball and loved playing golf and traveling, especially cruising. He visited most of the United States and several countries but was very content exploring the “Low Country” of his precious South Carolina. Hugh was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Shaw Cook, Jr., mother, Lalla Lipscomb Cook, and son, Hugh Shaw “Shawn” Cook, IV. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Coleen Cook; two children, Meredith Miller (Bruce), Lauren Gillespie (Roby), all of North Augusta, SC; two stepchildren, Tammy Staadt (Pete), Grovetown, GA, Rob Lea, Charleston, SC; nine grandchildren, Jessica Laura (Jeremy), Megan Miller, Roby Gillespie, Ryan Gillespie, Reagan Gillespie, Brittany Henry, April King (Bradley), Niki Staadt, Amber Staadt; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Pickens Halt (Ronnie), Ventura, CA; a brother, Hunter Cook (Janis), Charlotte, NC; several nieces and nephews; Cherry Cook, the dear mother of his children. The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Westwood Nursing Home for their love and devotion these past three years and to Regency Hospice for providing his end of life care.
