Janet Dyke Geckeler

North Augusta, SC - Funeral Services for Mrs. Janet Dyke Geckeler, 93, who entered into rest February 9, 2024, will be conducted Saturday morning, February 17th at 11 o’clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Masaki Chiba and Dr. Allen M. Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 10 until 11 o’clock. A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Mrs. Geckeler was the daughter of the late Chalmers and Mary Dyke, and made her home in North Augusta for the past 70 years. She graduated from Steubenville High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and completed an internship in dietetics at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. She married Donald Roy Geckeler in 1951. They lived in Oxford, Ohio until 1953 when they moved to North Augusta after Don accepted a position with Dupont's Savannah River Plant. Over these years Janet was a dietitian at University Hospital, retiring as Assistant Director of Dietetics. She was an active member of Fairview Presbyterian Church and a member of the "Ladies" Sunday school class. In the early years she held several offices in different organizations, serving as presidents of Fairview's Women's Society, Fairview's senior group called the Joy Club, and the Augusta Dietetic Association. She was an active member in the Martintown Road Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for over thirty years and had held several offices. Janet and her husband enjoyed square dancing and traveling with friends; she loved genealogy and researching family history. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Donald Roy Geckeler. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Anne Johnson and her husband Bruce of North Augusta, Martha Christine Smith and her husband Ken of Evans, Marjorie Elizabeth Batten of Evans; grandsons: Sgt. 1st Class (retired) Robert (Sarah) Mastroianni, Eddie (Kim) Batten, Blake Johnson and Larry Smith; granddaughters: April Burger (William), Jennifer Batten, Kathryn Evans (Nathan), and Abby Malzer (Andrew); great grandchildren: Tony Mastroianni, Jayna Batten, and Bennett Evans. As well as one sister, Mary Christine McDowell and nieces Cindy Krehely (Donink) and Sherry Fallaw (Ed). Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Eddie Batten, Blake Johnson, and Larry Smith, her granddaughters’ husbands: William Burger, Nathan Evans and Andrew Malzer.
