Jimmy S. Kurilla

North Augusta, SC – Jimmy S. Kurilla, 74, entered into rest August 3, 2024, while at home surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday morning, August 8th, at 11 o’clock at True North Church with Rev. Steve Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private interment will be held at a later date. Jimmy was born September 30, 1949, to the late John and Margaret “Maggie” Kurilla. He was 21 minutes younger than his twin brother, Johnny. From their infancy, they were inseparable with an unwavering bond like no other. Their enduring brotherly love was never called into question and together, they helped each other’s light shine brighter. Jimmy was a U.S. Army veteran and eventually retired from the Savannah River Site after 25 years of service. He enjoyed the simple things of life; riding motorcycles, skiing, spending time at the beach, tinkering in his shop, and listening to his favorite music. Jimmy was known for his attention and eye for detail with a talent to make anything he touched a true masterpiece. He created wonderful art, loved woodworking, refurbishing furniture, and no home project was ever too large for him to undertake. Jimmy had the greenest thumb and a knack for beautifying the world around him. He spent countless hours creating his home and cultivating his yard into a peaceful oasis. However, he always found the time to reflect and express gratitude with the phrase, “God, you got a nice place here!” Jimmy had a heart of gold and constantly pursued opportunities to help his family, friends, or anyone in need, never seeking accolades for his good deeds. He was a true disciple of Jesus Christ, and his faith led him to find his church family at True North, where he devotedly served for years. Jimmy moved to North Augusta in 1986, and married his beloved sweetheart, Dee Dee, in 1995, instantly becoming a father of two wonderful children. He was an incredible provider who loved his wife and adored his children. However, his greatest joy in life was being “Pop” to his grandchildren, relishing every moment spent with them. In their eyes, he was larger than life, he was their hero, and their friend. Jimmy always considered his family to be his crown jewels. Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 29 years, Dee Dee Kurilla; his son, Aaron Hill (Anna) of Salem, AL; his daughter, Anna Major (Benjamin) of North Augusta, SC; his brother, Johnny Kurilla (Debra) of North Augusta, SC; four grandchildren, Davis Hill, Avery Hill, Darcy Major, and Audra May Major; a nephew, John Michael Kurilla (Sally) of Ninety Six, SC; three close cousins, Johnny Frank Anderson, Harvey Anderson (Linda), and Geraldine Rankin; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
