John Scurry Smith, Sr.

Mr. John Scurry Smith, Sr. North Augusta, SC—Funeral services for Mr. John Scurry Smith, Sr.,80, of River Pointe Drive, North Augusta, South Carolina, who entered heaven on Thursday, June 7, 2007, will be conducted Saturday morning at 11:30 at Warren Baptist Church, Rev. David Dillard officiating. Interment will precede the funeral and will be in the River Pointe Family Cemetery at 10 o’clock, Mr. Bill Snyder officiating. Mr. Smith was born in Augusta, Georgia, on March 8, 1927, to the late Benjamin Roy and Ella Belle Scurry Smith. He graduated from The Academy of Richmond County in 1944 and from The Junior College of Augusta in 1946. He was a U. S. Merchant Marine and then graduated from Bob Jones University in 1949. On December 15, 1950, he married Sarah Anne Kelly. He worked at McKie Hunt Motor Company until 1956 when he started Southeastern Equipment Company, Inc., which was later named SECO Parts and Equipment. Mr. Smith was a member of The American Rose Society, The Camellia Society, and West Lake Country Club. He attended Warren Baptist Church and was in the Volunteer Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife, Anne Kelly Smith; two sons and daughters-in-law, B. Roy and Joyce Smith of North Augusta; John S. Jr. and Allison Smith of Nairobi, Kenya; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ellen S. and Ashley Royal of Macon, GA; Anne S. and Byron Morris; and Emily S. Daniel all of North Augusta. His twenty-two grandchildren are Sarah Smith, Rachel Smith, Roy Smith, Jr., Josiah Smith, Ashley Royal, Jr., Carson Royal, Lauren Royal, Austin Royal, Caroline Royal, Joshua Morris, Byron Morris, Jr., Caleb Morris, Joseph Morris, Rebecca Morris, Hannah Smith, Ben Smith, Daniel Smith, Nathan Smith, Elizabeth Daniel, Margaret Daniel, Alexander Daniel and Andrew Daniel. His two great-grandchildren are McNeill Morris and Levi Morris. Pallbearers will be Roger Bennett, Randall McClain, Bill Snyder, Alva Stephens, Barry Whitney and Roger Wolfgram. Honorary pallbearers are his fourteen grandsons, members of the Volunteer Sunday School Class of Warren Baptist Church and members of the Trinity Sunday School Class of First Presbyterian Church of Augusta.
