Joyce Jones Flake

North Augusta, SC – The Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce Jones Flake, 86, who entered into rest February 29, 2024, will be conducted Tuesday, March 5th, at 2 o’clock at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Father Antonydas Gaspar celebrant. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 o’clock. Mrs. Flake was born June 14, 1937, to the late William Dempsey Jones and Margaret Hans Jones. She was a native of Long Island, NY, a former resident of North, SC, having made North Augusta, SC her home for most of her adult life. Mrs. Flake graduated from Aiken High School and worked as a teller with Bank of America for a number of years. However, her paramount focus in life was always her family. She was a dedicated wife and mother who selflessly served her family. Mrs. Flake supported her children and volunteered as a Cub Scouts Den Mother and as a seamstress, used her talents to make clothing for her children in their younger years. She enjoyed gardening, and spending time fishing and shrimping with her husband. Mrs. Flake was involved in her community as a member of the North Augusta Women’s Club and an active parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Flake was preceded in death by her husband Richard Legrand Flake; a son, Richard L. Flake, Jr.; and her sister, Marguerite J. Dunlap. Surviving family members include four children, Nancy Flake White (Larry), Timothy P. Flake (Kristin), Mark D. Flake (Teri), Marie F. Pohlman (Jason); sixteen grandchildren, Richard Flake III (Adrian), Caroline Flake, Elizabeth Flake, Patrick Flake (Chelsea), Bobby White (Jenn), Megan White, Michael White, Rebecca Cockrell (Tray), Dwight Flake, Jenna Flake, Fisher Flake, Dustin Flake (Alexia), Kristen Baker (Chris), Ryan Flake, Christopher Pohlman, and Bennett Pohlman; ten great-grandchildren, Parker Flake, William Flake, Willow Reece, Scout Reece, Liam Anderson, Kason Molton, Trace White, Ellie Hayes White, Reagan Cockrell, Tucker Cockrell, Carter Flake, Nolan Flake, and Olivia Pohlman; a daughter-in-law, Susan Flake. Pallbearers will be Richard Flake, Dustin Flake, Bobby White, Michael White, Fisher Flake, Christopher Pohlman, Dwight Flake.
