Ms. Laura Elizabeth Murphy North Augusta, SC – Memorial Services for Ms. Laura Elizabeth Murphy, 65, of Hammond Place Circle, who entered into rest July 17, 2013, will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from Grace United Methodist Church. Rev. James D. Dennis, Jr. and Dr. T. Joseph Lusk officiating. Interment will be private. Ms. Murphy was a native of North Augusta and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Martintown Road Chapter of the DAR, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Ms. Murphy will be warmly remembered as a loving teacher by the 'family' of North Augusta Elementary School where she was named 'Teacher of the Year’. She received her BA degree from Augusta College and her Master’s in education from Columbia College. In addition to her teaching career from which she retired in 2012 due to illness, Ms. Murphy was a retail manager for Macy's, owned a cheese shop and catering business in Atlanta and owned and managed a restaurant in Chattanooga. A world traveler, she embraced all of life's experiences with enthusiasm and appreciation. Ms. Murphy was an avid Duke fan, and one of her life’s pleasures was the companionship of her cats. Her many students will remember her fun and caring teaching and a large host of friends will cherish the memory of her encouragement and loyalty. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the many friends who were tireless in expressions of love over the past years. She was the daughter of the late Paul Evans Murphy and Sara Elizabeth Blackmon Murphy Rosson. Survivors include her “adopted son”, Spencer C. Jones, North Augusta, SC; cousins, Janice Rosson Brewton (James, Jr.), White Rock, SC, Raiford Rosson, Jr. (Brenda), North Augusta, SC, Adele Rosson Morgan (Rev. Robert), Carthage, MO, Elaine Collins (Robin), Shelter Island, NY, and Arnold Blackmon, Jr. (Catherine), Charleston, SC. Friends of Laura and family members will greet each other following the Celebration of Life Service in the Wesley Center.
