Lonnie Samuel Childers

Belvedere, SC—Funeral Services and the Celebration of Life for Mr. Lonnie Samuel Childers, 95, who went to be with his heavenly Father June 23, 2022, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock in the chapel of Posey Funeral Directors with Rev. Robert Skelton and Rev. Jackie Wright officiating. Interment will be Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 at the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery, 700 Powdersville Main, Powdersville, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5. He was a supporter of the Church of God World Missions, a member of Warrenville Church of God and was retired from the United States Post Office. Mr. Childers was a devoted Christian and lived to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to others. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball, boxing and up to a few days ago, still enjoyed playing the trombone. Mr. Childers, also known as Papaw, was a loving, caring family man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to a dear friend and Mr. Childers’ caregiver, Denise Terry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Wesley Childers and Nettie Roper Childers Blackstock; two brothers, Grady Childers and Oliver Childers; a sister, Eunice Robinson; a half-brother, Rev. Paul Blackstock. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra W. Childers, a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn “CJ” and Chris Rachels, North Augusta, SC; a son and daughter-in-law, Joel A. and Beth Childers, North Augusta, SC; six grandchildren, Rosemary Childers, Lillian Childers, Harley Rachels, Aaron Childers, Deegan Rachels, and Jase Rachels. Pallbearers will be Aaron Childers, Deegan Rachels, Pete Abrigo, Antonio Abrigo, Carlos Abrigo and Michael Evans.
