North Augusta, SC—Funeral Services for Mrs. Marsha Elizabeth Metts Holman, 64, of Woodlawn Court, North Augusta, who peacefully passed away at her residence on Friday, December 9, 2005, will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Dr. Gary C. Redding and Dr. Roy Head officiating. Interment in Sweetwater Cemetery. Marsha was born in Smithfield, Virginia, but had been a lifelong resident of the North Augusta/Belvedere area since the age of two. She graduated from North Augusta High School in 1959, where she was active in numerous clubs and organizations. Her friendships with classmates has remained strong throughout the years. At the age of seventeen, Marsha began her career at Medical College of Georgia in the School of Nursing as assistant to the Dean. She later transferred to the School of Medicine in the Curriculum Office. She spent many happy years working closely with the medical students coordinating schedules, rotations and National Board Exams. She took pride in her role in the educational process of so many exceptional students and friends. Marsha retired from MCG after 34 years and then worked with the Health Center Credit Union until her second “retirement”. She loved interacting with people and never met a stranger. Marsha was known for her quick humor and wit, effervescent personality, outgoing nature and willingness to help others. Marsha lived her Christian faith in her everyday actions. She was passionate about gathering supplies for mission boxes. Her conviction to help those less fortunate was her mission during her retirement. Marsha was supportive of Community Ministry of North Augusta because she valued their commitment to helping others locally. She was an active member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of North Augusta. The faithful friends from church were a true blessing to her and the family, especially during her extended illness. Marsha suffered from metastatic malignant melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. She and her family were so grateful for the wonderful, compassionate care she received over the past two years. Many fine physicians, nurses and other medical care providers worked in concert to give her the gift of time. Special thanks to the following physicians and staff: Dr. Richard H. Bromer, Dr. Albert A. Carr, Dr. Marshall Guill, Dr. Robert S. Hill, Dr. Samuel D. Macomson and Dr.Alfredo Voloschin. The incredible teams at St. Joseph Hospital, St. Joseph Hospice and the MCG Neurosurgical Services…the family feels very fortunate to have had access to such advanced, comprehensive care. Marsha was preceded in death by her father, Henry Wilson Metts; grandparents, Thomas U. and Elizabeth Bedenbaugh; aunt and uncle, Roy and Patricia Bedenbaugh; uncle, Ralph F. Bedenbaugh. She delighted in being known as “Nana Banana” to Meg, Stephanie, Thomas, Colleen, Olivia and Matthew. Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Bob J. Holman; a daughter, Holly E. Holman, North Augusta; mother, Edith B. Cook, Belvedere; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald W. and Linda Metts, Graniteville; a sister-in-law, Boots H. Beane, North Augusta. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. Active Pallbearers will be Keith Eck, Bobby Dodd, Lowell Smith, Dennis Harville, Rob Graybill, and Newton Manly.
