Mary Frances Hixon

North Augusta, SC – Mary Frances Hixon, 90, entered into rest December 29, 2022. Funeral Services will be conducted 11AM Tuesday, January 3rd at Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 2220 Walton Way, with Rev. Sonny Mason and Rev. Jim McCullough officiating. Interment in Westover Memorial Park will follow. The family will receive friends at Posey Funeral Home North Augusta, Monday, Jan 2nd from 5PM until 7PM. Frances, known to loved ones as Frannie, was born October 6, 1932, in Powelton, GA to the late William Newton and Mary Elizabeth Cooper Herndon. A member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church for over 70 years, Frances regularly attended Sunday School, held positions on the church board, and volunteered in numerous ministries. After a 30-year career with Southern Bell/AT&T, Frances continued in “retirement” to serve her community as a Telephone Pioneer volunteer building Habitat for Humanity Homes, implementing Junior Achievement programs in area elementary schools and assisting in food distribution at local church pantries. Frances loved spending time with her family, hosting Christmas parties in rotation with her sisters, shopping (Hamrick’s! Belk’s! Stein Mart!), cooking for anyone and everyone, and visiting friends all over the states, traveling to points from Las Vegas to Alaska and as far as London. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters Mabel Capers, Anna Hoover and Bernice Hughes, whom, with one exception, lived on the same street. Left to treasure her memory are her loving husband of 70 years, Jack L. Hixon; son, Jack L. (Debbie) Hixon, Jr.; daughter, Barbara (David) Swilley; five grandchildren, Jack L. (Alena) Hixon III, Christopher Hixon, Leslie Hixon, Elizabeth (Charles) Opalak and Cameron (Laney) Swilley; seven great-grandchildren; Jack IV, Leon, Aurelia, Eleanor, Isabel, Michael, and Mary-Frances; and numerous nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Pallbearers will be Jack L. Hixon III, Christopher Hixon, Cameron Swilley, Charles Opalak. A special thank you to the outstanding caregivers who provided wonderful care and support over the last few years.
