Nelle Brotherton Ramage

North Augusta, SC- A Celebration of Life for Nelle Brotherton Ramage, 91, who entered into rest November 17, 2023, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Posey Funeral Chapel, Rev. Andy Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. Private interment will be held. Nelle Brotherton Ramage was born October 27th, 1932, to the late James and Mae Duncan Brotherton of Whitmire, SC. She grew up in a large family and was a caring big sister and excellent student. She graduated from Whitmire High School in 1950 as Valedictorian and from York County Hospital’s Nursing Program in 1952 as the top student in her class. Following graduation, she moved to Greenwood, then onto Augusta to work as a nurse. She made North Augusta her home from that time forward, and she worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Nursing from MCG. She became a family Nurse Pracitioner and a gerontology Nurse Practitioner. She also taught in the nursing program at MCG, then embarked on a career in Home Health Nursing. Her work ethic and compassion were legendary, both at home and at work. Mrs. Ramage married Jack Ira Ramage in 1956 and they had three children. Raising her family and tending to her patients were the two most important priorities in her life, as she felt called to love and serve others as Christ Himself would. She taught as a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist North Augusta for over 40 years and enjoyed serving her community in a wide variety of ways. She continued working until she reluctantly retired at age 79. She cherished her time with her family, especially her eight grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and nurtured powerfully. Her entire family mourns her loss profoundly and looks forward to seeing her again, healed and blessed, when they are reunited in Heaven. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ramage is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack Ira Ramage, as well as her siblings Quillan Brotherton, Bill Brotherton, Betty Brotherton Cox, and David Brotherton. Survivors who will cherish her memory include her three children and their spouses, Karon (Dr. Craig) Miner, Felicia (Dr. David) Zimmerman, and Jack Ira Jr. (Diane) Ramage, and eight grandchildren, Dr. Jessica (Dr. Nathan) Matlock, Autumn Miner, Stephanie (Micah) Rumsey, Ali Zimmerman, Maria Ramage, Benjamin Ramage, Caroline Ramage, Luke Ramage and expected great-grandchild, James Parker Matlock.
