Pauline B. Waterhouse

Pauline B. Waterhouse Aiken, SC – A Visitation for Mrs. Pauline B. Waterhouse, 96, who entered into rest February 12, 2018, will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Posey Funeral Directors. Interment will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk, ME. Pauline was born Friday the 13th of May 1921 in Radford, VA. After high school she graduated from Radford College with a degree in Home Economics. During World War II, she worked in the munitions plant in Radford, where she met her future husband of 60 years. Following the war, she moved to New Jersey where she worked as a dietitian in a hospital and trained nursing students in dietary practices. In 1952, Pauline moved to Aiken, SC, where she was a stay-at-home mother until 1967 when she became a substitute school teacher. This allowed her to be at home with her two children and earn a little extra. She enjoyed being a Pink Lady at Aiken Hospital until she was in her late 80’s. Pauline also enjoyed quilting until she was in her early 90’s. In the early 1970’s she was honored with having one of her quilts displayed at the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion. She made baby quilts for her grandchildren, Christmas quilts for her children and other family members and many other quilts with different themes. Pauline was an active member of John’s United Methodist Church since 1952. She and her husband played in many bridge tournaments throughout the U.S. and Canada over their 60 years together. The American Contract Bridge League has recognized her as a Life Master of Bridge. She also enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Waterhouse was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Waterhouse; her parents, Ed and Mary Baker; her sister, Frances Luzenski; and her brother, Joseph Baker. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Jane Waterhouse, North Augusta, SC; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Stephen Gilbert, Needham, MA; five grandchildren, Keith Eller, Beth Gilbert, Molly (Herschel) Hartz, Katie (Jeremy) Arant, Matthew (Stephanie) Waterhouse; and three great-grandchildren.
