Pearl Elizabeth Thomas "Pet" Key

Jackson, SC – Funeral Services for Mrs. Pearl Elizabeth Thomas “Pet” Key, 87, who entered into rest February 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, will be conducted Monday morning at 11 o’clock from Matlock Baptist Church, Rev. Dale Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in Wade H. Key, Jr. Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Pet was a devoted Christian, and truly loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was also a member of Matlock Baptist Church in Jackson, SC. Mrs. Key also cherished and loved her family deeply. She will be remembered for being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt. Mrs. Key was always a caring and nurturing person, and was quick to help when the need arose. Mrs. Key was a wonderful Southern cook leaving us to cherish so many of her recipes, and the warm memories associated with them. She loved hosting Sunday afternoon meals that were lovingly prepared by her and enjoyed by all. Family celebrations such as holidays and birthdays were her favorites. She enjoyed birdwatching, ceramics and trips to the beach and mountains. Pet was born December 14, 1938, in Augusta, Georgia to the late Franklin Bourlin and Ruth Connell Thomas. She was the youngest of eight children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Wade Hampton Key, Jr.; sisters, Norma Baxter, Maryann Ergle and Nillar Rooks; brothers, Franklin B. “Frank” Thomas, Jr., Gordan “Buddy” Thomas, George “Tinker” Thomas and Perry Thomas. Survivors include her daughter, Gail Key Mullan (Mike); sons, Josh T. Key (Cindy), John T. Key (Jean) and Wade Anthony “Tony” Key (Sherry); grandchildren, Lace Widener (Rhett), Alison Lowe (Jonathan), Shelley Key Williams (Jim), Brandy Key Swancey, Tony Reynolds (Amanda), Jason Reynolds (Jessica), Whitney Bryson (Thomas), Wade Hampton Key III, Heather Key, Jesse Wade Key (Chelsea), Carra Richardson (Keat), and Lindsey Key; 32 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jesse Key, Jason Reynolds, Tony Reynolds, Hampton Key, Thomas Bryson, Rhett Widener, Jonathan Lowe and Justin Poteat. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cameron Lowe, Bentley Bowman, Cullen Lowe, Austin Reynolds, Omar Zambrano, and Jim Williams. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to our forever friends and caregivers, Ruth Rodriguez and Deborah Shaw.
