Sara Elsie Middleton Hinton

North Augusta, SC – Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Sara Elsie Middleton Hinton, 86, who entered into rest February 10, 2024, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock in Pineview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. Elsie was born July 19, 1937, to the late Lundy Spencer Thompson and Sara Ruth Anderson Thompson Jackson Wilson. She was a native of Augusta, GA and graduated from the Academy of Richmond County, later attending Phillips College. In 1970, Elsie made North Augusta her home and became a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta. She was a faithful Christian who loved serving her church family and community as a Sunday School teacher and was an integral part of countless ministry programs throughout the years. Elsie was actively involved in the Golden Glow #76 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served in various leadership positions. However, her greatest joy in life was serving her family as a homemaker. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Elsie was preceded in death by her first husband William R. “Johnie” Middleton; her second husband, Charlie Hill; and her third husband, James H. “Jim” Hinton; a son, Johnie Middleton; and a grandson, Russell Middleton. Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her children, Billy J. Middleton (Denise), Becky Dodd (Steve), Cathy Tanton (Tony), Terri Wiley (Matt), Lee Hill (Joe Schofield), and Ellen Harper; a daughter-in-law, Pam Middleton; a brother, Joseph D. Thompson (Joyce); grandchildren, Barry Middleton (Erin), Craig Middleton (Kelsy), Lauren Farr (James), Sarah Dodd, Travis Dodd, Kaylyn Middleton, Dilon Tanton (Anna Kate), Coleman Tanton (Lindsey), Carter Tanton (Stephanie), Tori Holsomback (Jordan), Taryn Wiley, Liam Wiley, C.J. Hill, William Hill, Tiffany Marie Hill, and Weston Harper; and 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Barry Middleton, Craig Middleton, Travis Dodd, Coleman Tanton, Dilon Tanton, Carter Tanton, Weston Harper, William Hill, and C.J. Hill. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Jackie Neely Circle. Memorial Donations may be made to the Children’s Ministry of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, 625 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC 29841.
