William Earl Blakely

Augusta, GA—Funeral Services for Mr. William Earl Blakely, 86, of Augusta, GA who entered into rest May 15, 2008 will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o’clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Interment in Southlawn Cemetery with Veterans Honors and Masonic Rites. Mr. Blakely was a native of Fairfax, AL having made Augusta his home for the past 58 years. He was a graduate of Auburn University with a B.A. in English and Literature, Florida State University with an E.E.D., and the University of Alabama with a Master’s in Education. Mr. Blakely was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II where he proudly served with the Seabees. He enjoyed theater and participated in the theater club at Auburn and was a member of the Augusta Players for several years. Mr. Blakely enjoyed musicals, plays, Atlanta Braves Baseball, Auburn Tigers Football, NASCAR Racing and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge #315 AFM and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Augusta, where he achieved the 33rd degree. Mr. Blakely was a retired school teacher with the Richmond County Board of Education and was a member of Curtis Baptist Church. Upon his retirement he traveled extensively, visiting many countries throughout the world. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Jessie Blakely. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Jesse E. and Hazel S. Blakely, Jackson; three nieces their spouses, Sherry and Don Hicks, North Augusta, Debra and Steve Floyd, Jackson and Donnis and Joe Gavalas, Marietta, GA; a nephew and his wife, Timothy and Marivann Blakely, Montgomery, AL; several great nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Acacia Masonic Lodge #315 AFM and members of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Augusta. Active Pallbearers will be Victor Gavalas, Michael Gavalas, Nicholas Gavalas, Blake Stewart, Blair Floyd and Craig Blakely.
