North Augusta, SC – Graveside Services for Mr. John Kenneth “Ken” Boland, Jr., 79, who entered into rest January 1, 2022, will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in Westover Memorial Park with Mr. Victor Kovac officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. Ken was born to the late J.K. Boland, Sr. and Lenora Burke Boland, and grew up on Lake Avenue in North Augusta. He spent his earliest years in Beech Island, SC on land owned by his great-grandmother’s family, the Fosters and Glovers, prior to and following the Civil War. Many of his retirement years involved handling the development of that land. His first school memories were of attending Bayvale Elementary School in Richmond County before making the final family move to Lake Avenue. Ken did his Marine Corps basic training on Paris Island and served in the National Guard before completing his B.S. degree in Forestry from Clemson University. Following retirement, he settled on Stevens Creek in the Merriwether Community of Edgefield, SC. During this time of his life, he was a property investor and draftsman by profession and a natural, talented engineer by hobby. He loved his wife and family, gardening, history, playing pool, thoughtful discussions, working out, Clemson Tiger football and quiet moments immersed in nature. Survivors include his devoted wife, Linda S. Boland; a brother, Edward N. Boland (Jane) of Palmetto, FL; a nephew, Jason Boland (Jamie) of Lexington, SC; step-sons, Victor B. Kovac (Lola) of Nicholson, GA and J. Christopher Kovac (Catalina) of Hull, GA; his grandchildren, Jacob (Kiah) of Tigard, OR, Adair of Salt Lake City, UT, Jesse of Conyers, GA; a sister-in-law, Kay Strickland Ballard (Danny) of St. Marys, GA and their son, Scott Wilson of Augusta, GA. Active Pallbearers will be Scott Wilson, J.T. Wilson, William Patterson, Chris Kovac, Jason Boland and Jim Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Adams, Danny Ballard, Pat Hixon, Lee Kolb, Ronnie Perkins, Charlie Whisenant and Tony Hornbuckle.
