Bill Francis Fowler

Mr. Bill Francis Fowler, 92, husband of Mary Lee Fowler, went to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 7, 2022. Mr. Fowler was the son of the late Mr. Delbert Morgan Fowler and Mrs. Ruby Snow Plumlee Fowler. He was born on October 23, 1930, in Sherman, TX. His family later moved to Bossier City, LA, where he graduated as valedictorian of Bossier City High. He earned a full ride scholarship to Rice University, where he attained two bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering. He was offered several jobs upon graduation and chose to work with DuPont at the newly commissioned Savannah River Site in South Carolina in June of 1953, where he was a leading engineer for 37 years and helped develop the glass vitrification process that is still used to this day. He married Mary Lee Dorris on August 28, 1960 and spent the next sixty-two years as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Augusta, GA for over sixty years, where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and many other leadership roles. His relationship with Jesus Christ, and his family were what mattered most to him. He dedicated most of his time to his three daughters, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved traveling and camping across the entire fifty United States, and Canada and Mexico, sharing God’s creations with his children and nephews. We are thankful for his love of photography and the thousands of memories that he captured. Survivors include his wife Mary Lee Fowler, three daughters, Julie Rice and husband, Dan, Jacksonville, FL, Laurie Crook and husband Randal, Evans, GA, and Deborah McDonald and husband, Johnny, North Augusta, SC; twelve grandchildren, David, Rachel, Frances, Patrick, Jeffrey, Kathleen, Russell, Josh, Stephen, Jared, Scott and Lauren; three great-grandchildren, Kylee, Tucker, and Mckenzie; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his loving nieces, Becky Stobaugh, Minden, LA and Cheryl Culler, Tuscon, AZ. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Edwin Delbert Fowler, Essie Lorene Ryerse, and Robert Mitchell Fowler. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, November 9th, at Posey Funeral Directors in North Augusta from 5:00-7:00 pm. The celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 10th, at 11:00 am at Central Christian Church, 220 Crawford Avenue, Augusta, GA with Milton Summerall officiating, followed by a private family graveside service. Pallbearers will be Patrick McGowan, Scott McDonald, David Rice, Jeffrey McGowan, Tucker McGowan, Ethan Jones, and Austin Phillips. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Christian Church, 220 Crawford Avenue, Augusta, GA.
