Julia Carter Wise

North Augusta, SC – Graveside Services for Mrs. Julia Carter Wise, 93, who entered into rest June 21, 2024, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in Pineview Memorial Gardens, Rev. Dr. Cathy Jamieson and Rev. Ashley Buchanan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 until 7. Mrs. Wise was the daughter of the late Richard Clyde Carter and Minnie Rogers Carter of Cope, SC. She attended North Augusta High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. She represented North Augusta and was crowned Aiken County Cotton Queen of 1949. Mrs. Wise was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for several years, teaching Sunday School and a past member of the Grace Adult Choir and Stillwell Class. She was active in community work as Chairperson for the North Augusta Chapter of the Aiken County Heart Association and American Cancer Society for 20 years. Mrs. Wise was a member of the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta and donated some of the Cope memorabilia to the Roads and Rails, and some of the maps that belonged to her family. She held the position as Department Secretary at the Medical College of Georgia School of Microbiology and School of Dentistry Oral Biology from 1975 until retirement in 1989. Her employment also included the Bank of Trenton from 1951 to 1963, the Georgia Railroad Bank from 1963 to 1969, Aiken Security Federal at their branches in Belvedere and North Augusta offices from 1969 to 1975. Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Francis Miller Wise, Sr.; daughters, Julia “Judy” Wise Garner (Russell) of Columbia, SC, Mary Ann Wise Norton (Lester) of Cumming, GA; son, F. Miller Wise, Jr. (Marie Hutson) of Trenton, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer Garner McCormick (Justin) of Atlanta, GA, Jason Garner (Mary Catherine Smith) of Chapin, SC, Laurel Julia Norton of Alpharetta, GA, Kelly Ann Norton of Homer, GA, Ashley Black Croft (Kevin) of Williston, SC, James Cody Black (Mary Lee) of Barnwell, SC and Morgan Marie Wise of Trenton, SC; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Christian and Cohen Garner, Thad Croft, Justin Hamm, Henry McCormick; Taylor Croft, Clara Cate Garner, June Burdett and Adelene Black.
