Marvin L. Cloy

Jackson, SC – Funeral Services for Mr. Marvin L. Cloy, 79, who entered into rest December 5, 2023, will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at First Baptist Church of Jackson with Rev. Brian Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Park with Veteran Honors. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 o’clock. Marvin was born November 26, 1944, to the late Jerome Cloy, Jr., and Wilma Futch. He was raised in Tampa, FL, was a former resident of Augusta, GA, having made Jackson, SC his home for the past 20 years. Marvin was a proud Vietnam veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years. He retired after 36 years of service as a maintenance supervisor with Columbia County. Marvin was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, where he served as a deacon, was actively involved in the Men’s Ministry, and was a member of the Baraca Sunday School Class. He loved ministering to his church family by recording church services and distributing them to the shut-in members. Marvin had a talent for making handmade cards and shared his talents through the Mary Alice Cloy Card Ministry. Sharing these cards with friends, family, and church members, acknowledging holidays and important life events, brought Marvin much joy. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, and he had a knack for making anything work. Marvin will be fondly remembered as a jokester with an incredible sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Pridgen-Cloy. Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his stepchildren, Carl Pridgen (Teresa), Wanda Holzworth (Terry), Steven Pridgen (Kimberly), and Marissa Busbee; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and his best friend, Michael Moon.
