Nan Scott Harris Barrient

Nan Scott Harris Barrient, 70, of North Augusta, SC passed away peacefully at her home on January 2, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. Nan was born to Robert G. Harris and Barbara Leckie Atwater on July 1, 1948 in Los Angeles, CA. At a young age, she and her brother Steve moved to Saginaw, Michigan with their mother. It was in Michigan that her family expanded when her mother married Robert Adams (Dad Adams) and they had two sons, Peter and Paul Adams. Nan later moved with her family to Albuquerque, NM and then Brecksville, OH where she graduated from Brecksville High School in 1966. In 1969, Nan met John Rosmarin in Elgin IL. They married and had two daughters, Kelly Rosmarin Byron and Karrie Rosmarin Lykins. In 1980, Nan moved back to California, where her heart was. There she met Jack Barrient, the love of her life. Nan and Jack married in April 23, 1994. As Nan’s illness got worse, she and Jack moved to North Augusta, SC to be closer to family. Nan’s greatest love was her family. She cherished the times she spent with her siblings, daughters and grandchildren. Although she lived quite a distance from her two daughters, they were always close to her heart. For many years, she looked forward to the time that they were able to spend with each other when their families would vacation in California or when they took trips together. The time they spent enjoying Grandma’s cooking and swimming in the backyard will always hold a very special place in the hearts of her grandchildren. Nan was an amazing chef, so much so that she opened a highly successful catering business in Southern California called The Elegant Feast. Her husband reaped the rewards of her culinary talent and looked forward to every meal she made, especially Friday night hor d'oeuvres. Her Thanksgiving feasts she hosted for many years were very special to her family. She also had a love for traveling, probably because of her upbringing. She turned her love of traveling into a career as a travel agent and eventually owned her own travel agency, Boulevard Travel. And finally, family members and friends were keenly aware of Nan’s two favorite pastimes, gambling (the excitement of the sound of a casino) and of course, shopping. She thoroughly enjoyed Saturday morning garage sales with Jack and her very successful Ebay business. Nan is predeceased by her father, Robert G. Harris, step-father Robert Adams and youngest brother Paul Adams. She leaves behind her mother, Barbara Leckie Atwater of Prescott, AZ, her step-mother Elizabeth Gaye Beck of Malibu, CA, her husband Jack Barrient of North Augusta, SC, her daughter Kelly Rosmarin Byron, son-in-law Amos Byron, grandsons Alec and Max Byron of Farmingdale, ME, her daughter Karrie Rosmarin Lykins, son-in-law David Lykins, granddaughter Sydney Lykins and grandson Jonathan Lykins of North Augusta, SC, her stepdaughter Tiffany Barrient Shields, son-in-law Bryan Shields, granddaughter Alexandra Shields and grandson Brandon Shields of Lake Forest, CA, a brother Steve Harris of Lake Havasu, AZ, brother and sister-in-law Peter & Mary Adams of Vista, CA, sister-in-law Denise Adams of Salinas, CA and several very special nieces and nephews. Per Nan’s request, no formal funeral services will take place. Instead, she wished that her friends and family would celebrate her life at a time when everyone could be together. She always loved the beach and felt the happiest when smelling the ocean air. In the months ahead, her friends and family will come together in Southern California for a wonderful meal, lots of laughter and sharing precious memories. In lieu of flowers, Nan belonged to an Ovarian Cancer Support group in San Diego where their mission is to educate women about the risk factors and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer.
