Robert A. "Rob" Johnson

Martinez,GA - A Celebration of Life for Mr. Robert A. ‘Rob” Johnson, 78, who entered heaven October 6, 2018 will be conducted Saturday, October 20th at 10 AM at Stevens Creek Church. The service will be officiated by Dorna Adams, Care Pastor. Rob was a native of Detroit, Michigan, having made Augusta his home for the past 26 years. He graduated from Ferris University in 1963 and was a member of the Alpha Chapter fraternity. Rob completed his Bachelor of Science Engineering at the University of Michigan in Concentration Nuclear Science in 1965. In 1972 he achieved a Masters in Business Administration in Management at Stetson University. Rob was a member of Stevens Creek Church and retired as an engineer from Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site. His career in engineering allowed him the opportunity to experience living in Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Rob was an outdoor nature enthusiast as evidenced by his backyard koi pond, hummingbird feeders, mountain biking on the local trails and playing golf. His most loved character trait was his wonderful sense of humor. As a fierce patriot for his country, he was so proud of being on site at Cape Canaveral when the first man landed on the moon in 1969. This passion continued as he watched the moon on many occasions, studied the stars and recently witnessed THE total eclipse of the sun. Rob was loved unconditionally by his furry friends and is survived by Jackson (the cat) Johnson. He was a great listener, a true friend and had a rare gift of being able to offer solid and clear advice. Survivors include his fiancée Wendy E. Gerrity; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert A. Johnson, Jr. (Tina), and Christopher B. Johnson, all of Knoxville, TN. He was “Papa Bob” to 10 grand babies; Jessica Johnson, Miranda Johnson, Anna Johnson, Bayleigh Wiernicki, Sydney Wiernicki, Bear Wiernicki, John Barber, Olivia Barber, Eowyn Barber and Mila Rowsom. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Rob Johnson may be directed to the Fund for Hope at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center online at gifts.duke.edu Please feel free to dress in blue jeans and t-shirt as that was Rob’s favorite outfit.
