Mr. Victor B. "Red" Martin

Mr. Victor B. “Red” Martin North Augusta, SC—Funeral Services for Mr. Victor B. “Red” Martin, 87, of Bunting Drive, North Augusta, SC, who entered into rest April 20, 2012, will be conducted Monday morning at 11 o’clock from the First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Rev. Jerry T. Matthews officiating. Interment in Pineview Memorial Park with Veterans Honors rendered by the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post # 71. Mr. Martin was a native of Barnwell, SC having made North Augusta his home for the past 58 years. He was a Barber and owner of the Georgia Avenue Barber Shop for over 50 years. Mr. Martin was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta where he served as a Deacon, Chairman of many committees, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School and was the Founder and a former President of the Brotherhood Association. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II, a member for over 60 years of the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71 where he was the recipient of the 1999 Legionnaire of the Year Award and he received the 2000 South Carolina Legionnaire of the Year Award. Mr. Martin was a Founding Member of the North Augusta Boating Club. He was an awesome Daddy and “PaPa” to more than just his grandchildren. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Alma Martin and his daughter, Debra M. Bodie. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Doris Crawford Martin; two daughters, Connie Martin and Susan M. Bruce, both of North Augusta; a son and his wife, Vic and Ellen Martin, Trenton, SC; two step-daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Jan van der Linden and Paula and Danny Godwin, both of North Augusta; 10 grandchildren, Thomas Bodie, Chris (Tonya) Bodie, Marty (Alice) Bruce, Jamie Martin, Vickie (Jake) Griffis, Brian Grubbs, Eric (Terra) van der Linden, Mark (Amanda) van der Linden, Cheryl (Todd) Mehrmann and Claire Cullipher; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marion Martin, Williston, SC, Jennings Martin, Blackville, SC and Rommie Martin, Barnwell, SC; a sister, Brenda M. Harp, Rome, GA. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers . The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 4 until 6.
