Martinez, GA – Funeral Services for Mr. Richard Darrell Griffis, 73, who entered into rest on February 16, 2022, will be conducted Saturday morning, February 19th at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of North Augusta, Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. Interment will follow the funeral in Pineview Memorial Gardens in North Augusta, South Carolina. The family will receive friends at Posey Funeral Directors on Friday evening, February 18th, from 5 until 7 PM. Richard, a loving husband, father, Papa, and faithful Christian servant was born February 1, 1949, in Bainbridge, Georgia to the late Rufus and Billie Griffis. Growing up in Albany, Georgia, he graduated from Dougherty High School and later graduated from Georgia Southwestern College with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. During college, he met the love of his life, Kay Forester, whom he married in 1969 and has lovingly been married to ever since. Richard worked his entire life in the transportation industry, eventually owning and operating his own transportation company, Griffis Motor Lines, for over 25 years. Mr. Griffis was a longtime and active member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where he served on numerous committees, to include the Capital Fund Raising Task Force which raised millions of dollars for a new sanctuary and Children’s Learning Center. He was also a well-known and beloved deacon and former Sunday School teacher. Richard loved playing golf and spending time with his family, friends and loved ones. Mr. Griffis made everyone he met feel important and special; he had a warm smile, kind heart and loved talking with people, especially those he had just met. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Kay Griffis; son, Darrell (Uyen) Griffis; daughter Melissa (Jarrod) Moreland; four grandchildren, Makena, Kayden “KK”, Allie and Kate; brothers, Tony (Margaret) Griffis and Emory Griffis. Pallbearers will be Stacy Timmerman, Dan Fields, Dan Whitfield, Jarrod Moreland, Andy Griffis and John Griffis. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Agape Fellowship Connection Group. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Learning Center, First Baptist Church of North Augusta, South Carolina or the Shepard Center-Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program Atlanta, Georgia.
