Clayton "Clay" Lewis

Clayton “Clay” Lewis, age 57, of North Augusta, SC, entered into rest August 8, 2026. Memorial Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 12th, at 3 o’clock at Bel-Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 o’clock. Interment will be private. A lifelong resident of North Augusta, Clay was a graduate of North Augusta High School. He devoted 37 years of his working life to Clearwater Paper, formerly International Paper, where his strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication were evident to all who knew him. Clay was an exceptionally hard-working man who took great pride in providing for his family and giving his very best in everything he did. Clay had a remarkable gift for looking out for others, especially those he loved. He possessed an uncommon intuition and discernment that allowed him to recognize what someone needed, often before they ever had to ask. He was always prepared for whatever situation might arise and was the person others could count on when something needed to be done. If something was broken, Clay could usually fix it. If someone needed help, Clay was there. Yet, for all of his dependability and strength, Clay was also known for his wonderful sense of humor. He was a true jokester who loved pulling a good prank and, more than anything, making people laugh. His humor and playful spirit brought joy to countless family members, friends, and coworkers and will be deeply missed. Above all else, Clay adored his family. He served them tirelessly and considered providing for and caring for those he loved one of his greatest responsibilities and privileges. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. His family knew they could always depend on him, and his love was demonstrated not only in his words, but in the countless things he did for them each day. Clay was also a strong man of faith. He sought to live his life as a true disciple of Jesus Christ, leading not simply by what he said, but by the example he set. He was a longtime and devoted member of Bel-Ridge Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in countless roles throughout the years. His faith was woven into the fabric of his life, his family, and the way he treated others. Bel-Ridge Baptist Church held a particularly special place in Clay’s heart. It was there, during Vacation Bible School when they were young, that Clay met his sweetheart, Cara. What began as a childhood meeting would become a lifelong love story. The two eventually built a life and family together, sharing years of love, faith, laughter, and countless memories. Clay leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, service, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was the kind of man who made sure others were cared for, who could be counted on when needed, and who quietly gave of himself without expecting anything in return. His life was a testimony to the importance of loving your family, serving others, working hard, keeping your faith, and never missing an opportunity to make someone laugh. Clay was preceded in death by his father, Greg Lewis. Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his sweetheart and wife of 35 years, Cara S. Lewis; his daughters, Hope Cooper (R.J.), Laura Gambrell (Tyler), Bethany Alexander (Philip); his grandchildren, Asher Gambrell, Haley Alexander, and Delaney Alexander; his mother, Judy Lewis Ward (Linnie); and his sister, Tonya Lewis.
