Gwin Cooper

Gwin Cooper, 74, of North Augusta, entered into rest Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, July 26th, at 3 o’clock at First Baptist Church of North Augusta with Dr. Randy Cooper and Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 o’clock. Gwin was born on February 25, 1952, to the late Edward Houston and Georgia Cooks Anderson. She worked for Georgia Power for many years prior to her MS diagnosis. She put the love for her family above all else. She was a devoted and loving wife to her late husband, David. And even though interracial couples were not accepted in their home of South Carolina, their marriage thrived for 52 years, and their home grew to include 3 beautiful children and 5 grandchildren. Gwin possessed a quiet, sophisticated elegance. She took great pride in always looking her best and carried herself with timeless grace. Gwin was also a sports enthusiast who loved the Braves and never missed an opportunity to cheer the kids from the sidelines. She took immense pride in the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Her guidance, love, and devotion will forever remain a treasured part of their lives. In addition to her parents, Gwin was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Cooper, and a brother, Lee Edward “June” Houston, Jr. Family members left to cherish her memory include children; Daphne Owen (Gerry) of Aiken, SC, Nikki Hendry (Bryan) of Columbia, SC, and Zach Cooper of Wichita, KS; her grandchildren, Logan Owen, Peyton Owen, Lauren Hendry, Mia Hendry, and Carson Cooper; her siblings, Tim Anderson (Minerva) of Hephzibah, GA, Janice Meriweather (Larry) of North Augusta, SC, and Laverne Meade of North Augusta, SC; her beloved in-laws, Pat and Kenneth Carpenter, Dr. Randy and Donah Cooper, all of North Augusta, SC. Pallbearers will be Tony Pressley, Trey Laube, Frank Carpenter, John Sparks, Michael Rouse, and Denny Clark.
