John William Cawley, III

Funeral Services for John William Cawley, III, who entered into rest September 13, 2026, will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o’clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Elder Garn Capps officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. A dedicated public servant, John proudly served as a former Lt. with the Augusta Fire Department for 25 years. His commitment and bravery were recognized twice when he was honored as Firefighter of the Year. He was also a valued member of the water rescue team, always ready to help those in need. Beyond his service, John was the owner of Palmetto Curb Design in North Augusta, contributing to his community in multiple ways. John's greatest joy in life was being a dad. He was deeply involved in the lives of his sons, Jack "the Rowskie" Cawley and Will "Willie" Cawley, sharing with them his love for the outdoors. Many happy hours were spent fishing, hunting, and boating on the Savannah River, creating cherished memories. He was known as a truly fun dad, always ready for an adventure. Edisto Beach held a special place in his heart, serving as his happy place where he enjoyed precious time with his family. John also loved his fiancé, Annah Burton, very much, and their bond was a source of immense happiness. He found joy in the open road where he loved riding his motorcycles. John's warm spirit, infectious laughter, and profound love for his family and friends will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, service, and joy will live on in the hearts of those he touched. John was preceded in death by his father, John Cawley, Jr., and his grandparents, John Cawley, Sr. and Evelyn Cawley, and Robert and Janet Hightower. Survivors include his fiancé, Annah Burton; his devoted sons, John Marshall Cawley and William Cannon Cawley; his loving mother, Charlene Cawley; his sisters, Jeanna (David) Smith, Donna (Michael) Chastain, Nicole (Ken) Newbegin, and Katie (Travis) Leavitt; 24 nieces and nephews; aunts Patricia Cawley Lind and Diane Davis; his former wife and mother of his children, Jessica (Jonathan) Wingard. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Augusta Fire Department. Active Pallbearers will be Jack Cawley, Will Cawley, Jeffery Cawley, Michael Cawley, Christopher Wiggins, Brandon Canada ,Shane "Bam" Hulsebus and Michael Whittacker. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 until 8.
