Susan Allean Hemmer Kinlaw

North Augusta, SC—Memorial services for Mrs. Susan Hemmer Kinlaw, 63, who entered into rest May 21, 2026, will be conducted this Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and will host a reception following the service in the Posey Cottage. Mrs. Kinlaw was a native of Somerset, New Jersey, and a former resident of Aiken, South Carolina, having made North Augusta her home for the past 12 years. In her earlier high school years, she played basketball and was an avid swimmer, and she later had the opportunity to live in Austria, where she attended and graduated from the American International School in Vienna. She went on to earn her Associate Degree in Business Administration from Aiken Technical College. Mrs. Kinlaw also served as a missionary in Haiti, an experience that shaped her deep generosity of spirit. Mrs. Kinlaw loved gardening and being outdoors, with a particular fondness for the mountains and the beach. She was a voracious reader and was very active in musical theater. A devoted Tar Heels fan alongside her husband, she loved rooting for North Carolina, especially during basketball season. She loved animals and shared this love with her family, adopting numerous pets from the Aiken SPCA over the years, and she cherished every pet her children brought into the family. Even through great physical struggles, Mrs. Kinlaw was determined to live her life to the fullest and to enjoy the things that brought her the most happiness. Above all, Mrs. Kinlaw never met a stranger. She had a giving heart and a deep love for people, with a quick laugh and a knack for silly jokes that put everyone around her at ease. She gave generously of her time as a classroom volunteer and was a faithful supporter of Operation Christmas Child, finding joy in any opportunity to bless others. Mrs. Kinlaw was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Janet Hemmer. Surviving members of the family left to cherish her memory include her husband, David R. Kinlaw; two daughters, Meghin (Christina) Kinlaw and Katie (Kevin) Petriella; a son, Ian (Jesse) Kinlaw; three grandchildren, Madison Charlotte, Kyle Robert, and Guinevere Frances; a sister, Ellen Olek; and a brother, Peter (Krista) Hemmer.
