W. Nannette Johnson

Funeral Services for Ms. W. Nannette Johnson, 98, of Martinez, Georgia, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 o’clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Born on March 24, 1928, in Sardis, Mississippi, Nannette lived a life characterized by unwavering faith, devoted service, and genuine kindness. She was a graduate of Whitehaven High School in Memphis, TN and attended Freed-Hardeman College, an institution that remained close to her heart throughout her life. In June 1955, Nannette began her career with Delta Air Lines as a reservationist. For 33 years, she faithfully served travelers and colleagues at the Memphis International Hub before retiring in June 1988. Her professionalism, dedication, and warm spirit left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside her. Above all, Nannette was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and a devoted Christian whose faith guided every aspect of her life. Throughout the years, she worshipped with the Sardis Church of Christ in Sardis, Mississippi; Union Avenue Church of Christ and Woodland Hills Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee; and for the past 20 years, she was a cherished member of Central Church of Christ in Augusta, Georgia. A heart for serving others was evident throughout Nannette's life. She volunteered for more than ten years at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, giving generously of her time to care for those in need. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of Freed-Hardeman University and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, causes that reflected her lifelong commitment to education and helping children. Nannette embraced life with joy and curiosity. She loved traveling the world, gathering with friends through book clubs and card games, and staying active by participating in SilverSneakers classes. She treasured time spent with family and friends and was a source of encouragement, wisdom, and love to all who knew her. She is survived by her loving nieces, Deborah Smith Gay (Sonny) of Martinez, Georgia, and Lola Rebecca Smith Price of Spring Hill, Tennessee. She is also survived by a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews, all of whom loved her dearly and will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie F. Johnson and Lola May Johnson; her brother, Joe Johnson; and her sisters, Frankie Glass Peteet and Corrine Johnson Smith. With appreciation for their loving care the family acknowledges Trey, Todd, Caroline, Tina, Robert, Joan, Joyce and Judy. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Thrive Assisted Living in Martinez, Georgia.
